ok i’m shouting.
I am watching Clue for reasons. It is one of my favorite Tim Curry movies. I have to admit I like it more than Rocky Horror.
I should be grading, and I will in a minute. Yesterday I almost died, and that sounds overdramatic, but it may be closer to the truth than I think.
When I have to drive into the office, it is a two-hour drive through small towns and mostly back country roads. I left early to beat the rain, and I did make it to my car and drove about an hour before hitting it. As I saw a car in a ditch, my car decided to lose its grip, and I lost mine too. I didn’t think; I just let the car go where it wanted to go for a minute. Had I reacted immediately (fought the wheel and slammed the brakes), I might have been on top of that Mustang in the ditch or the person standing next to it. Instead, I spun for a bit, the engine shut off, and for a split second I thought about how I might inconvenience someone asking for help. That may have been the actual energy they shared with me, too.
But I put the car back in park, breathed in and out for a second, and then started the car right back up. I have an SVU, not a minivan, as my kids like to call it to tease me. There was a truck already stopped to help the Mustang, and my car easily made it back on the road, passing a few more cars that had done the same as I had.
My heart finally settled, and my body stopped shaking as I thought about it. The music playing was something not as melancholy as it had been the last few days. Rihanna was telling me to shine bright.
I was in a major accident a few times in my life, and one I remember was driving to work and someone running a red light and hitting me. I had a Route 44 Sonic drink in my cup holder, and the front of my car crunched up, and the airbag went off, and the drink was everywhere. That car was totaled.
Yesterday, as I calmed down, I noticed the two coffee cups in the cup holders were still sitting in the exact same place. My bag with my laptop, which doesn’t close and could have been all over the floorboard, was just sitting on the seat like nothing happened.
The only evidence left is a bunch of grass and mud on my running board.
I just wonder what the universe was doing yesterday, but I guess I still have to live. Not everyone gets to do that.
