Walked into a room by yourself with no direction and no thought of why you were there, just that you wanted to be among the people there?
Have you ever had friends with toys you could touch and wear with no feeling or expectation of anything else?
I do and I did.
The beauty of having a community is that, for the most part, all are welcome, especially when you find a group that fits you. I am not going to lie and say my community is the best and never cliquish because that is not true. There are a lot of pieces and parts to it, and I do sometimes feel like a teenager again, where I float among several groups, not picking one in particular, and not always getting deep into friendships.
I think a lot of times, though, it is not a mean girl mentality. It is more that we are all socially awkward together. We have a few people who drive us and make us feel comfortable in a space. We have the ones who make sure everyone feels welcome. There are those that act as good anchors so that you know if you get too overwhelmed, you can latch on or even go hide out in a space.
We can be comfortable and confident and embrace our uncomfortable and unconfident parts.
