Flexible and Breezy

I am watching The Robinsons, an older BBC show with Hugh Bonneville and Martin Freeman. Freeman plays a character named Ed Robinson.

Ed has an interview in the 2nd episode and struggles with how to describe himself. He asks each member of his family to help with this description. Each one has their own way of describing him, and not all are good. In the end, he realizes he is a bloody good liar and should stick with that.

I took notice when he asked his sister-in-law, who calls him flexible and breezy. I have often thought of myself in that way. Some days, I have the confidence to look at myself as adaptable. Other days, I think I have no personality. But we could also see it as easy-going (don’t ask my kids about that, they may not believe it) and pleasant.

So much of this has to do with my submissive nature and feeding off of others. I can also see my upbringing here, always putting others first, serving others. There wasn’t a lot of time to develop a huge personality of my own.

But at the same time. There are things I care about. There are limits and boundaries that people get surprised at when I finally have had enough. There are different things I enjoy and at times hyperfocus on, like romance and British people and kink and writing. Give me another year, and we will see what other things I will pick up. We will see what other traits I copy from others. I look forward to seeing what is next.

I am a paradox . . . I am a mess of contradictions. . .You don’t get a type, you get a real person.
